This wonderful Italian restaurant needs to be on everyone's radar. Their pasta dishes are superb. Pasta Carbonara - perfect in its classic simplicity. It's amazing how many restaurants in SLC mess this dish up. The Per Noi version was so good! The special pasta tonight was a ravioli with artichoke and pancetta in a cream sauce and it was sublime. I hope it is a regular special. Kooky location, in the middle of a residential neighborhood...I would have never just driven by this place without the help of Yelp. Attentive service but the restaurant could bump up their decor for a little more ambiance. Cute patio seating too. I can't wait to come back!

Four stars solid for flavor and execution but I'm giving them three stars for small portions. This place is cute and gets busy on the weekends fast so be sure to call ahead and make reservations. I made reservations and was seated immediately and asked what I wanted to drink. The service is prompt and I do enjoy that. Our waiter was kind and on the ball at all times and made sure to check back with us from time to time. The food is good but I do understand reading past reviews that this place does have small portions. Is it worth it coming back? Maybe if you're not that hungry and just want a small Italian dish full of flavor. Chicken Marsala- awesome dish but small portions. The chicken was tender, the veggies had a good bite to them and weren't overcooked and the Marsala sauce was wonderful. Pasta with spicy meat sauce- spicy! Has a kick to it and the sauce was very flavorful. I wish it had more meat in it but at least this place knows how to cook their noodles al dente! Would I be back? Sure.. But if you want bigger portions go to the Cheesecake Factory where I think it equally as delicious when it comes to their pasta and the portions are double in size.

The menu was well-priced, the service attentive, and the atmosphere was neighborhood quaint. I don't have any complaints. Everything was fine, really. But, nothing stood out. It felt like going to a friend's house, who had raved about his wife's cooking, only to realize your friend enjoys -- nay, prefers -- bland food. If I were to return, it would be a to-go order for the gnocchi and cannoli alone.

I don't really get the reviews, "Great for price". Personally I think it's overpriced. It's Italian food people. Clearly there's a noodle shortage going on somewhere that's upped the price. Also I think a salad should come with your main meal, that's already overpriced. I don't think the food was as good as it was hyped up to be. It is in a cute area. Service was supppper sloooooow. Maybe we came in on a off night, cause it took forever to get out of there, which sucks when you already have a little kid that's done.

I was visiting SLC three years ago and had amazing dinner here! Had to try again and sure enough another great meal! This is a true hidden treasure! Hidden among a neighborhood of houses not on the main roads! Friendly people! Great waitstaff and very relaxing! Don't get fooled on the chains and go to an authentic Italian place - worth the visit!! Ciao! Came back again the next night - still excellent! Still 5 stars!

Let's cut to the chase. The salted caramel gelato was exceptional. Ok, with that out of the way, the arancini was a pleasant surprise. Crunchy rice is always a plus, in my book. Add cheese, a little sauce, a bit of meat and herbs, and you've got yourself a tasty orb of power. The eggplant parm app was tasty, cheesy and saucy. The calamari was a bit on the dry and fishy side. My comment: "This kind of approaches the flavor of squid jerky you get at Asian markets." The margherita pizza was decent, with all the flavors we westerners would expect; basil-y, tomatoey and cheesy. The tiramisu and vanilla panna cotta were both excellent. All in all a good experience, if not, a pleasant surprise. Can't wait to get back and try out the rest of the menu!

I can't say enough exceptional things about this quaint Italian restaurant! I found this place on Yelp & read great reviews on the authentic Italian food they offered. It states on here that it is not good for Groups, but I called and reserved seating for about 14 girls anyway and they were more than willing to accommodate. The owner made sure to call and confirm the day of and when we arrived, they put together tables to ensure we had enough room. He kindly offered a "Family Style" dinner with a couple courses for a flat fee per person, but the girls all wanted to order their own entree. It was so sweet of him to offer that option! He was also VERY GENEROUS & brought out appetizers caprese salad, pizza, and bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil for our group! If that's not service, I don't know what is!! Most importantly, the food- PERFECTO! I decided to try gnocchi for the 1st time and it is little round potatoes with your choice of sauce, I got the Bolognese (meat sauce) and it was delicious! My friend got the chicken Parmesan and she confidently stated it tasted better than her own cooking! Which is saying a lot!! My cousin got the salmon and it tasted wonderful with just the perfect amount of herb & seasoning! Everyone was very welcoming and made us feel very special for our Galentines Dinner! Thank you Per Noi Trattoria!!!! We will be back!!

Pulled up for our first time to Per Noi and was pleasantly greeted by Francesco outside the door, they were pretty busy and he asked us if we had reservations? We kindly replied that we did not but he quickly got his staff to get a table ready for us. We were sat and instantly had waters and made in house bread. We were given the specials and ordered our meal. Being that my family is from Italy I have grown to be very picky with my Italian food, I have to say I was greatly impressed! I tried the Bolognese gnocchi and my fiancée went with the lasagna. Both had great flavor and loved the stronger hint of fresh basil in the lasagna. Francesco came and sat down with us and chatted for a while which was very nice! We will be going back very soon to see Francesco and his friends and family at Per Noi!

I came in on a slow day and they were very kind, provided great service and kept my drink full. If you've been to Olive Garden then you owe these guys a chance--they actually make good Italian cuisine.

If you are looking for downtown cuisine without the chaos this is the place to go! Everything is made from scratch and hands down delicious, also without the downtown prices. Check out this great neighborhood restaurant!

By far the best Italian food I've had in Utah. Their calamari appetizer is perfectly on point - lightly breaded and the perfect texture. I've also had the lasagna and the pollo parmigiana. The latter comes with fresh, deliciously roasted seasonal vegetables. The veggies were some of the best I've ever had. Even their bread is amazing! I'm so glad we've finally found a good Italian staple in SLC.

Loved it. Good food, great service. The owner came to our table personally to open our wine and checked on us regularly. I would recommend to anyone, but get reservations on the weekend.

  • Amanda D.

The food was good for the price and the service was great, however for the prices we paid we expected a little more professionalism from the staff. Not to hear them goof off the whole dinner and talk about patrons negatively as they walked in the door (as we were seated by the kitchen) the calamari needed more seasoning.

This was a legitimate Italian eatery! We've been to the the North End in Boston where we ate at multiple trattorias and had Cannoli's at Mike's Pastry and Modern Pastry. It's been hard trying to find anything at all that is similar to what we had in Boston. This place is as good as any place we went to in the North End. Two important tips: 1. Make a reservation if it's a Friday or Saturday. If you don't, you'll be standing by the door for a bit. There is no waiting area. 2. Bring your own bottle of wine. ($7 uncorking fee.) The service was effortless. The servers knew when to approach your table. They didn't hover or do the opposite which is to become invisible. Food! Simple and classic. The portions were just right and every bite built on the last. The cannoli is everything a good cannoli should be! Filled on the spot with a creamy ricotta filling. Made me stop missing Modern pastry for a moment. If you're looking for authentic Italian then look no further. You won't regret it.

Awesome place! Best food, best Service! Best Desserts! Francesco is the maestro! You can even bring your own wine and glasses! Great service. It's a bit small and crowded, like in mamas kitchen. And it's underpriced.... Very affordable , compared to the overpriced Italian restaurants around here....

  • William P.

Maine of the best Italian food in the Valley. Francesco the owner is a pro and his service is only eclipsed by the attention to detail with the food. Had the rack of lamb and it was moist and tender. Don't miss this place!

Per Noi is a very cool place. It definitely has the feel of a real family-owned place in Italy. It's sort of fancy, but not stuffy. It's classy, but still lighthearted and fun. The wait staff is super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. And the food is really good, bordering on great. The best thing we had was the Arancini appetizer. It's a ball of cheesy rice, peas and Bolognese sauce, rolled in bread crumbs and deep fried! They serve it with marinara sauce and it's phenomenal! Yumm! Lisa had the salmon and it was prepared beautifully. It had a perfect sear on it and the temperature was ideal. Unfortunately, it's up to the waiter/waitress to "finish" the dish with a drizzle of olive oil. Lisa got more of a torrent than a drizzle, which made her entire meal super oily. No worries, though. It was an honest mistake, made by a new-ish waitress and probably won't happen again. I had the gnocchi Bolognese and it was good, but not my favorite. The sauce needed to be more bold and needed more meat, IMO. Next time, I'll try something else, as gnocchi isn't my favorite pasta. Overall, we really liked Per Noi and if not for a couple of minor missteps, they might have garnered a 5-star review.

Came in on a hot Monday night, I haven't been to this place in a couple years. I had their lasagna and it did not disappoint, it was spot on. My date had the seafood pasta, the sauce was perfect. Love this neighborhood spot.

  • Kay S.

The food here is just okay. After all the great reviews I was hoping for a better experience, but it was quite mediocre. The biggest problem with most of the things we ordered was lack of seasoning. The pasta fagioli was extremely bland, the caesar salad was bland, the rib eye needed a lot of salt and pepper, the risotto needed some spice. The chicken marsala and the accompanying vegetables were good, as was the pasta primavera. We also liked the cannoli a lot. I can see why people like this cozy little place, especially if they live in the neighborhood. However, the 4 star rating is not warranted, and I'm not even sure 3 is right. Just don't expect too much. If you're a fan of bland, you'll really like it. Otherwise, be prepared to do your own seasoning. PS Wait staff, please don't be so quick to grab plates!

  • Tyra S.

We loved the gnocchi. Spinach ravioli was pretty good, but the gnocchi is where it is at. Have them split the sauces with the Gorgonzola and red meat sauce. The bread tasted fresh and delicious. Francesco was an exceptional and gracious host. He gave us a free tiramisu (yummy!! try it) on top of a great conversation. We will definitely return here.

  • Kelsey C.

Everyone has said most of it already, but what we loved about Per Noi: - Cozy, romantic atmosphere (small, so reserve a table ahead of time, especially on weekends!) Even though the tables are close together, we were able to have a conversation and didn't overhear others' - It's in the Sugarhouse/Millcreek neighborhood next to a hair salon, high-end clothing shop, and garden store, and surrounded by houses instead of a big concrete parking lot in a strip mall. So charming. - QUALITY ITALIAN FOOD - always looking for great pasta and they had it. My husband loved the salmon (though serving size was a little smaller than he was expecting) - Really good bread - Great service, solid - the owner, a friendly Italian man, greeted us at the door and made sure we were doing okay; the server was very friendly and attentive but not pushy - Totally affordable prices This is our go-to now for a romantic date night out.

Meh. Small space with inefficient layout. Food was okay. Service was okay. For the price there are numerous better options.

We went here 4 months ago and were delighted with the food and service. We went tonight. My first clue was getting a reservation at 730 on a Friday. The place was nearly deserted. The waitress was unknowledgeable and untrained in their food offerings. Her demeanor was disengaged and unattentive. And then the food came out. Poor presentation. The Spinach Ravioli was disgusting and was sent back. Times have changed... And we will not be back. Yuck. I can deal with one bad server, but an entire meal of inedible food does not give me a reason to return.

  • Marc S.

Not overly impressed. I had heard good things about Per Noi and since it is right down the street from my house I thought "why not give it a whirl!" Having passed by many times and seen how quaint the restaurant was I decided it best to make a reservation, the gentleman on the phone was very polite, confirmed that bringing your own wine was acceptable and even encouraged. We concludes our conversation as he said he looked forward to seeing me at 7pm. Fast forward to 7:15, I am still waiting for a table, while drinking my wine out of a water glass...apparently reservations don't mean much if they never get added to the schedule. Finally got a table a little before 7:30pm, never an offer for a proper wine glass...but oh well. Food was decent, the gnocchi tasted very fresh, but the meat sauce was a letdown, perhaps I should have opted for the pomodoro that other Yelpers rave about. Overall the experience was less than stellar, and certainly doesn't make me yearn for a repeat visit. Maybe it was just a bad night, or at least I hope so as this place is in way to convenient a location to not be a "go to" for dinners out.

I love this neighborhood joint. Tucked in the middle of a residential street, the restaurant has a lot of character. The food are so fresh and made with great care. The menu is not big but it will satisfy everyone. Service may be slow at times but that's what a glass of wine is for as you wait.

What a disappointment tonight for dinner! 4 months ago we had a great experience with wonderful food and service but tonight was totally the opposite. Our server had very limited knowledge of the menu and seemed completely out of it and aloof. Spinach ravioli was not appetizing at all and I sent it back for a different entree. Dishes were cleared before we were finished and talk about tacky... we were asked to keep the same straw when our drinks were refilled! I really wanted this to be a great experience as we were introducing a friend who had never been but the overall experience was just not up to par. I hope this place survives as we very much enjoyed it the first time. I guess time will tell. Time for management to get it together!

Very professional service and the food was great! Francesco is such a classy guy- personally welcomed us when we arrived and made a point to say goodbye to us and shake our hands as we left. Overall, a very positive experience and we'd highly recommend this place if you're looking for some Italian.

  • Evin S.

This place seems to be hit or miss in reviews. Guess it was a "miss" night for us. Friday pre-dinner rush reservation yielded a table right by the chilly front door, where those seated at my table were continuously whacked in the head with purses of those gathering awkwardly, waiting to be noticed and seated. (There is no hostess station or entrance area.) The waiter missed taking order of one person in our party and started walking away as they began saying their entree selection. Undewhelmed by service, and the lack of any acknowledgment by owner who seemingly greeted all tables but ours. Spinach ravioli's skin was delicate & fresh but pricey for 8 paper-thin, barely stuffed raviolis. Chicken parm was average, except for the lack of parmesan. For all the hype, we saw little to rave about except for the tiramisu and cannoli which were the highlight of the meal.

  • Ryan G.

Do you like gnocchi? How about authentic home made pomodoro sauce? Yeah me too and short of going to Italy you would be hard pressed to find better Italian food than Per Noi. The restaurant is pretty small but the patio is especially nice for a late meal during the summer. I usually bring my own but they do offer beer and wine either by the bottle or the glass. It's on stratford ave so it's pretty quiet and a great place to relax and drink said wine while being close enough to my house to walk home after imbibing so go responsible drinking. My advice would be next time your in sugarhouse get off the beaten path and try this great Italian restaurant instead of Olive Garden or even Salt Lake Pizza and Pasta, you really won't be disappointed.

Authentic Italian food, charming location, friendly staff -- definitely one of my neighborhood favorites!

We came here on the recommendation of a friend. We were surprised to be greeted by Francesco's familiar face (we met him at his previous employers). The food was authentic Italian made with a lot of love. From the bread all the way through to the gelato, all amazing! We look forward to returning.

Recently moved to the neighborhood, decided to try Per Noi for my birthday dinner.....soo happy I did! Excellent service with just as amazing food! I had the Gorgonzola gnocchi, it was delicious. I also tried the caprese salad, chicken Parmesan and lasagna. I will definitely go back and be ordering delivery! Yay for a great neighborhood restaurant.:)

  • Taylore L.

From the outside, this place looks tiny and, to be honest, quite sketchy. The inside atmosphere is a bit better. Our waitress was fairly new and obviously anxious about doing her job correctly. Our appetizer, the eggplant Parmesan, was delicious. Very similar to my grandmother's. However, my dinner, the margarita pizza, was mediocre at best. It was very cheap, though. I'm not the type of person who's willing to pay $20 for a dish of pasta. All in all, it's a decent place to grab some Italian food. Seems very hit or miss though.

  • Kat A.

I ordered two of their spicy penne dishes an was not disappointed. Their sauce was flavorful. The noodles were cooked perfectly and their service was amazing too! They are a hidden gem that I am glad I found. Hats off to the Chef.

We've been going here frequently. And I don't think we'll be going again. I purchased their seafood pasta special which had 2 pieces of shrimp and 2 scallops, for $22. Ummm...... Really? You lost a good customer.

  • Mark L.

The food tasted fantastic. However, it was way overpriced. I had Pollo Picatta for $14.95 which should have been priced in the $10 range. For that price they should have included a salad. If you have the money, you must try this place.

This is my favorite Italian food in Utah alongside Lugano, and I have been to possibly every Italian joint here, and Lugano is MUCH more expensive (and more of a northern Italian thing anyway). Per Noi seems to be more focused on southern cuisine, but they do have risotto. The wine list is short, but fine for me. I like the chianti they offer (can't remember what it is!), and would recommend it with the bolognese. The best dish there is, in my opinion, the seafood pasta, but I've yet to have a bad dish. I hear they do a great risotto, but I have not had it personally. Service is, as others have said, incredibly warm and personal. This really feels like a friendly neighborhood joint and you can feel that the owner has his soul in the place. I'm not one for "feelings" but this place is dripping in charm and will really make you feel at home. Finally, when they ask if you want dessert, yes you do - and you want the pannacotta.

  • Val W.

Oh Francesco. I love you! This tiny place is like going to your Italian Grandma's kitchen and eating the most flavorful and lovely food imaginable. The owner will tell you what he thinks is best that day if you ask him. He will also tell you how to make it yourself too! I love this restaurant so much and have been there many times. Yes it can be loud. Sometimes there's cheesy music playing from an overhead speaker. But that's just fine. Leave me with that delicate pink sauce on my Spinach Ravioli and I will be satisfied.

  • Kris B.

Had you been driving down the road, you would never notice this gem of a restaurant tucked away in a mini strip mall. Fair prices, fresh pasta, daily specials, and great service. Come for the food, especially the handmade pasta dishes, and finish off your meal with a cannoli - as authentic as they get.

    (4)
  • Andrew S.

Eat here...soon. Franco is a wonderful host and the Italian food that comes out of that kitchen will have you looking forward to the next time. Nothing over the top crazy special about the location, seating, service, or menu - just really fresh good food. Pretty much what I experienced in Italy years ago.

    (5)
  • Dane F.

Per Noi now has a wine and beer list. Not many choices, but good prices. The place is small with 8 tables indoors and 5 outside in front, which is to hot to enjoy this time of year until after sunset. The decor is minimal, but not unlike places I have seen in neighborhoods around Rome. Good friendly service.

  • Scott C.

I must say I was really disappointed. I went here based on the Yelp reviews. I called days ahead of time and set up an out door reservation for my anniversary. When we arrived they had not reserved a table. We didn't even get an apology, just a well are you ok with sitting indoors. Our server hardly came by, there were people that got their food before us when they ordered after us. The food was bland for my wife and to many olives in mine. The re is dirt in the corners of the dinning room and glass table top covers has chips and cracks in them. Horrible service just eh food. It was a mega special night and we we're let down.

  • Andrew B.

This place is straight up legitimate authentic Italian food. I love the place. Atmosphere is nothing fancy but the food is incredible and priced well. Come in on Fri or Sat night and Joe, the owner's uncle, will greet you. Joe migrated to the US from Italy in the 60's and is quick to make recommendations from the menu. I followed his advise and had the homemade spinach ravioli and it was phenomenal. Simple but elegant. Wine and beer list is small, but there are some good bottles. With that being said I am definitely not a wine connoisseur. Do yourself a favor, and check out Per Noi

My wife and I love Italian food and after having dinner at literally every Salt Lake Italian restaurant and in Italy and Sicily I have to say that Per Noi wins the best local Italian restaurant award for quality, personal friendly service and price. Not only is the food the absolute best bargain for the quality but Francesco and his staff including his maitre d', Felix made our evening memorable with their sincere friendly, local neighborhood (hence the name "Per Noi") feeling. I recommend Per Noi to anyone looking for a restaurant that combines high quality, well priced Italian cuisine while a genuine neighborhood Italian ambiance.

Food, service and atmosphere were all very exceptional. My girlfriend and I decided to stop in on a suggestion from a friend who had heard good things about Per Noi Trattoria so we decided to try our luck. Though the menu isn't very lengthy, there is a good variety of dishes with several things on it that peaked my interest. Upon asking our server for a recommendation based on size (I eat for 2-3 people) she pointed out a dish that I hadn't really given much attention. Trusting her word, I ordered that along with an appetizer and what my girlfriend wanted. We were both very satisfied with our dishes. The prices were relatively low for the amount and the quality of food we received and without drinks, our bill came to $41 which I was more than happy to pay. The service was also great. The waiting stuff consisted of generally younger people who, I have to admit, performed much better than I would have taken them to when I walked in. I can really tell that the management or owner has spent a lot of time emphasizing mannerisms and such involved with waiting. Every time something was taken from the table, it was accompanied by an 'Excuse me' as well as any time we were approached to be checked on or to take our order. Though very small gestures, they were well noticed and I was very pleased. All in all, we had a great experience and will be returning very soon to try the rest of the menu.

The food/service was great. Our table started with some calamari but it was unnecessary because the complimentary bread was amazing. We ordered lasagna, chicken parm, and an eggplant sandwich... no one was disappointed.

GREAT food. I've been there twice now, the ribeye is to die for. Really. Small local place, not the nicest, but the staff seems great and everything I've had has been really great. I'm not sure what the bad reviews are about, I guess everyone has different tastes. I've had the ribeye, pollo picata, lasagna, pollo parmigiana, and pollo piccata and I'd go back anytime. Give it a go!

Authentic Napolitano and Sicilian style Italian fare in Utah. I have yet to have a disappointing meal at Per Noi. The restaurant is quaint and inviting. Most often, I request dishes to be made without ordering. The owner, Francesco, is an exceptional host to his restaurant. The prices are extremely fair for the quality. The dishes are carefully prepared with "real deal" ingredients--from the "00 Flour" bread, to genuine Marsala sauces, hand rolled gnocchi, and homemade lasagna sheet noodle, each menu item has homestyle deliciousness. A few items to try: Gnocchi puttanesca, Lasagna, Arancini (because it's so big!), Chicken Marsala, Ravioli with Spinach in Sage Butter Sauce, and ANY desserts.

This is my latest find! A coworker recommended it and we can't get enough. Each dish is amazing we have tried hasn't let us down. The panacotta is the best dessert ever! Francesco the owner will come over to your table and talk to you and make sure you get a lot of Italian loving!

A wonderful place for Italian food. My friends and I each ordered a different special. We loved our food! I had the risotto with mushrooms and peas. It was a wonderful plate of food! The service was pretty good but not perfect. My friend asked for a diet coke and the waiter brought her a knife. We had to laugh at that. Very quaint, casual place.

  • K G.

The owner was super nice and accommodating to open for a lunch for our group. We had family style gnocchi and Chicken marsala. I don't even like mushrooms, but the marsala was great. Gnocchi is my favorite Italian anything, and it hit the spot. I haven't sat through a regular service there as we had the place to ourselves, before hours, but it was great. We loved it.

Per Noi is a destination restaurant. As in, I want to move to the neighborhood so I can eat there all the time. They don't yet have their full liquor license (something about popes vs. prophets), so you must BRING YOUR OWN VINO.

  • Jeff M.

Staff was good. Got the food quickly during lunch. Tablecloths were dingy around the edges - pretty gross. Tried 2 tables and both wobbled significantly. Some of the chairs looked like they belonged in an office and some were as dirty/gross at the tablecloth edges. Food: Eggplant parmesan appetizer was good and a good price. Disappointed that it was topped with dried parsley flakes - a bunch of Italian parsleys is less than $1 - why use dried flakes??? The spinach ravioli were fresh made which was great, the accompanying sauce however was fairly bland and needed salt. My wife had the caprese salad which was to be as expected. Overall, the food is what it is for the price. The decor could certainly use some work and baseline cleanliness. Don't have much reason to visit again.

We had an amazing experience. Greeted by a little old Italian man who is one of the owners. Seated us without reservations on a busy Friday night. Started us with yummy, soft homemade bread and very rich, high quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. Homemade Caesar was excellent. My husband had the gnocchi and it was the best he's had stateside. I got the special which was angel hair in a garlic olive oil sauce with tomatoes and spinach and they were all cooked to perfection. Finished it off with the best cannoli on the planet. service was superb. Glasses never even got close to being empty. Server was very friendly and the chef came out and chatted with us and shared the secret to their cannoli with us.

Without a doubt, this was the best Italian food I've had in Utah...and tied with the best I've had ANYWHERE. The food was excellent (four of us each got different entrees, including Chicken Marsala, Chicken Parmesan, Salmon, and Ravioli, and we all shared bites...the sauces were simply superb. Their custard dessert was the perfect touch to end the meal with. In addition to unparalleled good flavor, the service was excellent and the ambiance was delightful...intimate and unpretentious. It may have been our first time there, but we plan on going back on a regular basis. This is the first time I've made the effort to fill out a food survey, but they definitely earned rave reviews!

Finally an Italian restaurant in SLC. Forget the décor, you are there for the food, I am a food snob, studied in Positano , Italy from the Best Chefs out of Naples. The SAUCE, yes RED is SAUCE, Brown is Gravy. To die for, full flavored deep red with no after bite. The Lasagna was fresh, not Sysco, the gnocchi very flavorful. Save room my friends, Canoli, OMG. So the rest of you has beens move over there is a new Maestro in town. Already planning my next return , this time for the Marsala preceded by the Pasta Fagiola, pronounced " Fa Zull"

Loved the food! Owner and family are the friendly staff. Fridays and Saturdays I recommend a reservation.

How can this restaurant have this many good reviews unless they are related. I've been here twice now and I so wanted it to be good and both times I thought the food was extremely mediocre. I've been to Italy a LOT and nothing I have had here tastes homemade. The sauce on both the lasagna and the arrabiata taste like it comes out of a bottle.

My son and I checked out this new restaurant in a tiny old building on a very snowy night last week. Parking here is atrocious. We had a reservation and were seated within a few minutes of our arrival. There is nowhere to sit and wait in this tiny pizzeria-turned-Italian restaurant, so it's great that they take reservations. They really need to paint the walls here. We were seated next to this wall where the salad bar used to be when this was a pizza place. The scrapes and chips in the paint were ugly and unappetizing. You might think you should stop reading now, but please, bear with me. The delicious bread and olive oil/balsalmic vinegar brought to the table took my mind off the ugly wall. Delicious! The wine list is very small, but not bad. I would love a sauv blanc to appear next time I hit up this place. I actually had a $5 house white that was dry and lovely. My son had the Arroncini app and a caprese salad and I had a Caesar salad. The Caesar was blah and I was looking the for anchovies the menu promised. Never found even a hint of one. The Caprese was good considering the winter tomato. The Arroncini was giant and delicious and served with some wonderful red sauce. My pollo piccata was delicious, tender and flavorful and it came with well-seasoned roasted vegetables. My son had the special which was risotto with spinach and mushrooms in a creamy, delicious sauce. For dessert (again limited choices) we shared Tira Misu and it was good, but pretty standard. I think with some time and tweeking, this place will be very good and become quite popular. And to the super loud talker guy who was seated next to us 20 minutes after we were seated, stay at home or learn to modulate for Pete's sake!! You gave me a major headache and I don't give a crap how much money you've won in Vegas!

Great Little Place tucked away in sugar house. Fresh made dishes that have great flavor, I will be coming back for sure

The food is good, but the service is abominable! The first time the service was iffy, but, we were pleased with the food so we went last night. We were seated and given menus. A table came in 5 minutes after we did and the must have known the owner. They had bread, drinks and 2 visits from the owner, all the while at our table next to them-NOTHING! We finally walked out after 20 minutes and went to David's kitchen. The funny thing is there were only 4 tables in all of Per Noi and they ignore1???

I have no idea what food these other reviewers are eating because this place is not good. The the balsamic they served with the bread was low quality and sour tasting, calamari was terrible--both texture and flavor, the caprese was not great, and the pastas were not good. A trattoria should only serve fresh, homemade pasta or don't call yourself a trattoria. The service was friendly but also awkward. The ambience isn't great and I would never go back. Yelp reviewers let me down!

Decent, good tasting and we will try to go back. Everything was very salty, however, so we can't go too often. When A restaurant uses too much salt, it's typically a sign that they may do other things solely to improve taste. PS. I put more salt on my food than most people, so beware if you don't.

Service 1 star Atmosphere 2 stars Appetizer 5 stars Entree 3 stars First of all, let's talk about the lack of air conditioning. Holy Toledo, it was hot in there! Granted we were seated near the window, but it was 7:30! It was not even the hottest point of the day. Total deal breaker. We wanted a nice, relaxing dinner to catch up with friends we hadn't seen in awhile, and instead, we slurped down our ice water and swatted away flies all night. I can think of very few cities in which a restaurant can get away with not having air conditioning, and unfortunately for Per Noi, SLC is not one of them. So we get to the food portion of our night. The other couple ordered the Arancini, rice ball, for a starter. This one contained bolognese, so I did not try it, but they were raving about it. The $4 price tag put it over the top for them. My boyfriend and I picked the Eggplant Parm as our appetizer, and it was just to die for. The sauce tasted like a little grandma was in the back making it. The eggplant was thinly sliced and breaded just so. It was perfection on it's own, but then they took it a step further, and topped it with big hunks of fresh mozzarella. Fresh mozzarella, people! I was in freaking Italian heaven. After this promising start, we were getting so excited about how great our dinner would be! This is where it all fell apart. About 45 minutes after the starter dishes were cleared, we still had not gotten our entrees. Once we asked, they immediately showed up. One was the wrong one, though, and we were told that they would work on making the replacement dish and it would be out soon. After we'd already waited nearly an hour from the time we placed the original order (before the starters), there was some alarm that we'd be waiting a long time. Once we raised this concern, it seemed like the replacement appeared momentarily. Kind of weird. How did they get it done so quickly? I ordered the Gnocchi Pomodoro. It was good. Just good. Kind of lackluster. My boyfriend ordered the ravioli and was surprised when the plate was brought out with five medium-sized ravioli. Granted, they were almost certainly homemade, but the portion size was not enough to fill Matt up and he ended up eating again when we got home. There was also a Gnocchi Bolognese and a Puttanseca at the table. Everyone said it was okay. No one was raving as we had been earlier with the starters. Also, the restaurant set up is somewhat confusing. There is a small patio outdoors, but there is no clear path to a front door. The building has two front doors, so you're unsure which one is the main door. We entered through what would turn out to be the wrong one, and ended up right on a couple at a small table. We felt awkward and it would have been easier for everyone had there been a sign on the front, directing you to the actual entrance. Not sure that I would go back. I know our friends definitely would not go back.

Yeah, it's in a cinderblock unit in a tiny stripmall in a residential neighborhood. Yeah, it's not what you'd call cheap. But it's not always about calories per dollar or atmosphere. These guys are legit. Everything is hand made. Try it. You won't be disappointed.

Had a fantastic dining experience last night. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating of our 9-person party. The arancini app was delicious. My partner and I ordered gnocchi bolognese and chicken parm for our meal and fought over the last bites. Rich flavors. Great addition to the neighborhood. Will be back. Incredibly affordable.

This restaurant is somewhat unassuming... Don't try to evaluate based on their website or you'll be deceived. This little restaurant is focused on great food and excellent service, and what else should really be more important when going out to eat. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Per Noi really deserves all the accolades that previous diners have posted. We ordered the Gnocchi and Chicken Marsala. While my Chicken Marsala was tender and flavorful, the Gnocchi stole the show. Pillowy, perfectly made pasta with a lovely bolognese sauce. Despite what some others have posted, our food arrived within 15 minutes and the service was great. The owner/chef was very nice and ensured our food arrived on time and that it was to our satisfaction. This is a gem of a restaurant. So glad to have Per Noi in the neighborhood....we'll be back. PS...they've opened up the patio.

My wife heard rumors about this place so we decided to stop by. It is in a neighborhood and the menu is very limited so I was very nervous. The fresh bread came out...very good start. It was hard to stop eating that stuff. We ordered the quatro pizza as a app and it was also very good, but mostly because the ingredients were very fresh. I ordered the chicken parm and my wife ordered the gnocchi for the main course. The dishes took a while to come out, thankfully, and looked great. My chicken parm was the best that I have ever had, and I have had it many places all over the country. My wife loved the gnocchi but was already pretty full so that will be lunch tomorrow. The prices were extremely fair and the service was great; even after the meal. My wife left her purse in the restaurant and our waitress literally ran it out to the car as we were driving away. I would recommend getting to this place ASAP because in a few months there will be a long wait any night of the week.

I called a few weeks ago to make sure you could eat here with kids. I wasn't sure if this was "too nice" for that sort of thing. I was assured on the phone that kids were welcome. When I arrived the other night I felt like Julia Roberts trying to shop on Rodeo Drive. They made it very clear that I was not wanted. Even though there were plenty of open tables, they acted like they could not seat me. The waitress completely ignored us the entire time we were there, could not get more drinks etc. I had heard such great things about this place & was really looking forward to checking it out. Needless to say, I will not go back.

I was really excited to try this place because there are so few Italian places in salt lake, and this place looked quaint. However, I was really disappointed with the food. My salad had wilted lettuce and my lasagna was not that great. I can make better lasagna at home from the side of a pasta box. My husband didn't like his meal either. We won't be going back.

Super yummy Italian food. Finally found a good Italian place in Salt Lake. Yay! Everything was delicious, especially the home made bread. Service was awesome. Please try, you'll be happy you did. Will definitely be back soon for more.

I had heard nice things about this so we were excited to try it. When you ask how the calamari is and we say "freezer burned" don't just feign a smile and walk away. Not only freezer burned but there were pieces that were like small stones. Even if they were fresh, there was too much breading. I agree that the portions were small. It would be nice to expand the meat selection, if only with a special. I wouldn't go back. Either would my date.

Good home style Italian. Spinach ravioli was the fav for our family. Family friendly waitstaff. Very reasonable prices.

Great traditional home style italian cooking. The owner is the best. Don't expect to be in and out in a half-hour, it's simply not a "fast food" restaurant, nor should it be. If you're one of the complainers about the time it takes to get your food - go to olive garden. Have a glass of wine, chat with a buddy, and relax.

Apparently my previous review was a little too gushing about how much I love this place. Just had lunch there and once again it was amazing. Read the filtered reviews as well and you'll see how enthusiastic people are about this hidden neighborhood gem.

Food was great. Had the pollo Parmesan and the lasagna. My son and both agreed we would ask for a little less sauce next time. Chicken was cooked perfectly. They were absolutely full with only one waitress so we waited over 20 minutes for our bill and to go boxes. She also only checked on us to refill my son's drink but never refilled mine. Like I said she had a full house and was alone so I give her credit but I would add a second server. We live close so we will be back. Prices were VERY reasonable.

Get in while you can! They have been open roughly one month and once it catches on, you will be hard pressed to find an open table. This is the kind of local restaurant that makes your mouth water just by thinking about it. The food is all made in house and it is delicious. The lasagna was masterfully prepared. The lightest and most tasteful lasagna I have ever had the opportunity to enjoy. The atmosphere is friendly, warm and family oriented. Space inside is a bit limited, but you don't really notice. The tiramisu is awesome and a wonderful end to a spectacular meal. As I stated above, they are still new and working out some of the kinks. Don't discount this place. The food is some of the best in Italian-inspired cuisine in Salt Lake City.

The restaurant is in the location of the recently closed Z Pizzeria, so it's really small, but the food was great. I had the Pollo Marsala, which came with penne pasta in a tomato sauce and it was delicious. They don't have an alcohol license yet, but they're working on it, and you can bring your own bottle of wine for a modest corkage fee. The chef (and I assume owner) was on hand to greet all the guests, check in with our orders and ensure us that we each got the most delicious thing on the menu. He's 100% Italian and clearly loves what he's doing, which makes all the difference. The service was great, polite and attentive. I can't wait to go back and I'm thrilled to have a dinner place in the neighborhood again.

I enjoy this quaint neighborhood restaurant so much! Each time we dine here, we are greeted with a huge smile from Franchesco, the owner which is so refreshing. We have been there on occasion that he takes our menus from us and just brings out his finest from the kitchen. Everything on the menu is amazing and his prices are far too low for this quality of food. Get here quickly before there is a line down the street!

This is my second time here and it just gets better with each visit because as I try new dishes, I find new favorites! The food is fabulous (my favorite Ceasar salad IN THE WORLD!!)!! If you want authentic Italian atmosphere and cuisine, try this place. It's not pretentious, luxurious or even speedy, but in my mind that's the charm of this place! We made reservations, which was helpful because the place gets busy in the evenings, even on a Tuesday.

Tried Per Noi for the first time tonight. We had a reservation and were greeted and seated immediately. Francesco, the owner, made a point of thanking us for coming in. Our waiter was courteous and efficient (and as we would discover later, makes a mean cappuccino). We ordered the house salad, spaghetti pescatore, and gnocchi gorgonzola. All were perfectly executed and delicious. The complimentary bread witholive oil and balsamic vinegar was also very good. We will definitely be going back...and soon. The food was great, the service was friendly and efficient, and the prices very very reasonable. We have spent twice the money at a high-end italian restaurant downtown, but our meal at Per Noi was every bit as tasty. Keep up the great work, Francesco!

I live in the neighborhood and kept seeing folks walking to Per Noi and then heard the glowing reviews on their way home. Well, got to try it over the weekend. Simple menu but serious flavor. "Best lasagna in town except for my Nona" the waitress told us (her Nona is the creator of the recipes). Group of four had the gnocchi, pescatore, lasagna and eggplant, all very good. Cesar dressing was traditional and very good, Tiramisu and Panna Cotta were both very good as well. Bring your own beer and wine and for seven bucks they'll open it for you.

A friend recommended Per Noi Trattoria and I absolutely love the food and the atmosphere. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. I've been back three times with friends and family since I initially visited the restaurant 2 months ago. The food is delicious, I love the Chicken Parmigiana, Puttanesca and can't pass up the Cannoli. The restaurant unfortunately doesn't have a liquor license, but I love the fact that I can bring in a bottle of wine to enjoy with my dinner.

We went to Per Noi after reading so many good things about the food online. Our experience exceeded our hopes. We started with a light margherita pizza. Our beverages arrived with outstanding bread -slightly crusty, dense rustic bread made in-house and accompanied by EVOO and balsamic. I ordered ravioli spinach and asked if I could get pomodoro instead of cream sauce. No problem. My partner got gnocchi bolognese, a combination of soft, perfectly prepared pasta pillows and sublimely spicy meat sauce. We finished with simple panna cotta with a light dusting of chocolate. Our server presented our dishes in a timely unhurried manner (as we requested). Try Per Noi now before the rest of Salt Lake's foodies discover what a great little Italian gem Per Noi is.

The misspellings on the menu make a very bad first impression, but most of the food, and the friendliness and neighborhood ambiance help to make up for that. Positives- great family ambiance and authentic Italian hospitality, very good gnocchi with pomodoro, and excellent ravioli, both home made, nice antipasto of eggplant parmigiano, good ribeye al pastore, all at very reasonable prices, $7 corkage (must bring your own vino). We also heard good things about, but didn't taste ourselves, some of the other pasta and meat dishes such as the chicken marsala and the linguine al pescatore, as well as the arancini antipasto, which is a fried rice ball with red sauce for dipping. Negatives- undercooked and generally underwhelming margherita pizza, and sloppy service- waiting 15 minutes after 3 requests for water and bread, and watching our waitress (his daughter?) fumble her way through the service process way too slowly. I'm rooting for Francesco to succeed, to upgrade the menu spellings and the up and down service, and to improve the pizza, because we need a great little Italian family-owned place like Per Noi. It wouldn't take much for this place to be great, and I hope he keeps working on the rough edges until they're smooth. It also wouldn't hurt to see a special or two on the blackboard, to keep things interesting for the many repeat customers who probably have the menu memorized by now.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
